An adult dog needs to be fed around 2%-3% of their IDEAL bodyweight per DAY.
The below chart is a starting point guide only. All dogs metabolize at different rates and have different activity levels so adjust the daily amount up or down as necessary to maintain constant and healthy weight.
As a general rule, the larger the dog, the slower the metabolism so, for adult dogs, start at 2% of ideal bodyweight for large breed and 3% for smaller breeds.
Arctic breeds, such as huskies and Alaskan malamutes, require 1.5% of bodyweight daily. These breeds naturally store their fat supplies very efficiently.
